Biography

Kyara was born in the sunny coastal city of Salvador, in north-eastern Brazil. Being an extrovert and creative child, she was naturally the entertainer of her family and eventually she began taking theatre classes at school. Her interest in the performing arts grew stronger, as a teenager she studied at Sitorne - Studio of Performing Arts and graduated as a professional actress from the Federal University of Bahia. As a young working actress, Kyara was interested in investigating different artistic languages and began exploring physical theatre, dance and live art. At the age of 26, she was selected for a 3-month artistic residency mentored by actor-performer Fábio Vidal and commissioned by Funarte, which culminated in her first solo, an autobiographical movement-based performance.

Seeking to expand and develop her work and connect with artists from different backgrounds and disciplines, Kyara moved to London and completed an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths University of London with distinction. She met Palestinian choreographer Noora Baker during her studies and together they created CACTUS Collective, where they developed a movement-base, political-satirical artistic practice. They performed in various festivals across Europe and the Middle East and received commissions by Der Langste Tag (Zurich) and Point Perf (Geneva) to devise immersive performances in public spaces.

While working at CACTUS, Kyara met Brazilian Shaman Alba Maria from Terra Mirim Community and began a healing journey that would have a strong impact in her artistic work. In 2018 she dived into an exploration of her connection with the four elements of nature through an artistic residency in Terra Mirim and created her second solo, an immersive promenade performance. In the last years, Kyara’s artistic practice has been increasingly influenced by her relationship with nature, rituals and self-investigation. She became interested in consciously investigating art as a tool for healing, connection and transformation.

Kyara developed the Four Elements Creative Flow masterclass, which she is currently facilitating. She is also the creator and host of Art for Healing, an online interview show. Kyara spends her time and creates her work between the UK and Brazil.
